Carbon Dating

Before this blog gets swallowed up into the vast darkness of oblivion, I had better post an update.

The past couple of months went by in a hallucinogenic blur, which is by no means a bad thing but there was hardly any time to stop and think. Let's begin with the surprise birthday bash - seriously the best birthday bash that happened to me, ever. I'd never forget it.
To anyone on the team who's reading this: Thanks so much!! And of course not forgetting Greatest, who made the Super Incredulous Moment possible and for the great dinner on the night before. =)

Damn, thanks you guys.

After it was over, it actually reminded me so much of The Game, which is the movie starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn - and how close I was to turning into the ultimate grinch at work. Suppressed anger has a way of creeping down your spine and hiding in all the little crannies, before suddenly bursting out one day. Not unlike the chest-buster in Alien.

And oh, I ended up getting the best present later that day. Sweet deal!

Zoom in to a few weeks later: caught quite a few flicks with Greatest. Most of them are good:

1. Brick Lane: Story about the lives of Indian migrants in London. Very well shot.. engaging story, with bits of humor thrown in. An eye opener for how life could be like for minorities living in London.

2. Grace Is Gone: Powerful performance by John Cusack. Right down to the way he walks.

3. Cassandra's Dream: Not the strongest film among the three. It's supposed to be a triptych. I haven't seen Scoop! yet, but I have a feeling Match Point was the best - because it's quite disturbing, in a way that I'm not sure if was intended.

4. The Forbidden Kingdom: A little bit of a letdown. Lots of action, not much funny.

5. Harold n Kumar Escape from G. Bay: Too vulgar. Too political. Some scenes are still quite funny.

6. Taxidermia: By far, the most surprisingly good film of the bunch. Some of the scenes would probably stay in my head for quite some time. Amazing visuals, wonderfully abstract and vague - artful despite the disgusting imagery. Would probably require multiple viewings to fully understand.

The past shapes the future, but we exist in the present. And inexplicably, many things repeat, and go in circles. But what didn't work then, sometimes work now. It sometimes feel as though a mash of experiences are merging together. But it had been a rather bumpy ride. Totally worth it.

They actually look better in scans! Because everything's merged together for some reason. Haha.

Can't wait to see the shots that'd come from the Hong Kong trip!! ^O^
